fstemp

Thought I’d post this in case anyone else has a similar problem.

Our Head of School’s MacBook Pro was having problems. It was eating up disk space for no apparent reason. It seemed to be happening during the synchronization of the mobile home directory. Running lots of apps including OmniDiskSweeper were reporting that while the disk had 216GB used, it was only cataloguing 50GB.

With the suggestion of a fabulous engineer at Apple, I ran the program as the superuser
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper

and it found hundreds of gigabytes in the user’s desktop directory all called silly names like…

.fstemp.+PHD-L-hDjzWLUASp4 ... 3Z1.noindex

I’m deleting those.

Learn To Party

Been cleaning up old files on my computer and found a rip of Thrush Hermit’s Learn To Party, which I had digitized from VHS years ago.

Being There

What’s a good level between easy of use and security? I’m not sure.

I’ve installed reCAPTCHA on instance of WordPress, I don’t think it’ll stay, I just wanted to try it out and see if it works. It does. I installed it on Being There’s instance of WordPress and there it’ll live, but is it too annoying for the average user, thus stopping them from commenting?

My Fair Clavin Part II

I think I should revisit this post. I think the issue is the shoulder pads.

Schomberg Fair

Went to see the Schomberg Fair last night at The Garrison, here in Toronto. Fab show.

Being There

Four years ago, I, along with a handful of other amazing people started an online web magazine called Being There. We’ve been on a bit of a hiatus. It’s back!

Check it out!

Twizzle

I posted this on YouTube a while ago, and I constantly get emails saying someone’s commented on the video. Thought I’d share.

Back Home Weather’s Got You Down

Listening to Matt May’s “Back Home Weather” off of his first and self-titled record.

Back home weather’s got you down
Looking to move on and skip town
You’re looking to get lost to be found
‘Cause back home weather’s got you down
You say you got somewhere to go
Where the palms grow tall and the air lets you know
Roll the windows down as far as they’ll go
So you say you got somewhere to go

Take your time, enjoy the view
Don’t let ‘em get to you anymore
Let everything slide, go along for the ride
Make sure that you decide where you’re going

Foreign car with northern plates
Heading down through the southern states
Find a decent motel with decent rates
In a northern car with foreign plates
In a foreign car with northern plates

Take your time, enjoy the view
Don’t let ‘em get to you anymore
Let everything slide, go along for the ride
Make sure that you decide where you’re going
(repeat)
Where you’re going (repeat)

My Fair Clavin (6×11)

Been watching Cheers lately, I grew up on this show, and it’s always been awesome. Watching it as an adult you see very different things, like when Woody says a line that was very obviously written for Coach, or just how much of an asshole Sam is.

In this episode, Cliff gets a girlfriend… yes, that Cliff. He’s ashamed of his girlfriend, and won’t take her to Cheers, until after he puts her through a makeover. Am I the only insane one who thinks she’s much better looking pre-makeover?
