Doctor Who Story 202 – The End of Time

Dreamland

A decent story about Area 51 would be nice, but I don’t think this is it. But it’s nice that David and Georgia got to work together again. I assume they were a couple by this point.

The Doctor making Die Hard and Alien references is great.

I wouldn’t mind the Doctor having an indigenous companion.

Uh oh, the military is controlled by an alien.

This animation style makes David Tennant look sickly.

There’s too many groups in this story. The US military, the Roswell Greys, the insects, the swarm, the robots.

People pick up the TARDIS way too easily.

Doctor, don’t set up other people with your wife. Well, unless you’re into that, you kinky bastard.

The End of Time Part One

Ahhh, it starts with narration, always a terrible sign.

Wilf!!!

People are stupid if they are trying to resurrect the Master.

They’re really playing the Master as too insane. It’s not enjoyable.

The narration is horrible. Sorry Mr. Bond.

What’s with the Master wanting to eat people? Also, I feel sorry for John Simm and all these shots of him eating.

This father daughter duo are gross. Like Trump and his daughter.

That’s a good hallway for the Doctor to run in.

More talking heads on news programs.

Boo! Wilfred is now trapped.

The head shaking special effect is so bad. Though most of this story is so bad.

“There is only the Master race.” Dude, I don’t think you know what that means.

“For Gallifrey!”

The End of Time Part Two

I really wish David Tennant’s ending wasn’t so bad, but at least I have tasty quiche.

It’s so strange that the lords of time resort to prophesy.

I don’t believe that 7 billion Masters would defer authority to the original one. I think you’d have fun chaos.

“He loves playing with Earth girls.” Well, “Earth Girls Are Easy.”

Why does the Doctor have such a huge hard on for the Master?

God, this show is so bad! James Bond throws a diamond from his place in this time lock at a picture of Earth and it just shows up on Earth?

What’s with sci-fi and senates and big open pits and balconies over it?

Remember when the Doctor fell from a tower and regenerated into Peter Davison? And now he can just jump out of a spaceship and crash to the floor?

The Master I know loves being the Master. I can’t believe that he’s so upset about being who he is. Also, Gallifrey is huge.

The Doctor is a bit cruel to Wilfred.

Honestly, the Doctor should leave him. Have him dictate a note to the Doctor for his daughter and Donna. Probably separate notes.

I can’t believe that made Mickey and Martha get married. They are so bad.

David Tennant’s Doctor is always so sad. It will be really nice to have a less sad Doctor.

It is nice to see all the Doctor’s companions one final time.

Hello Matt Smith, Goodbye David Tennant.

Doctor Who Story 198 – The Stolen Earth & Journey’s End

The Stolen Earth

The milkman looks like Spike. Are there still milkmen in Britain?

Someone stole Earth.

Martha!

Wilf is the best companion.

Good news, Rose is there to save the day!

They all got into the opening credits, that’s nice.

Russell Davies loves newscasters.

Really? This is what she bothers with? The Earth has been moved and spaceships are en route, and she’s worrying about looters?

Jealous Ianto.

Martha is on a bluetooth headset with Jack, yet the general she’s conversing with in person hears Jack telling her not to do it.

Wilfred with the paintball gun is fun.

“Do you have a webcam?” “She wouldn’t let me, says they’re naughty.”

Jack flirting with Sarah Jane is the best.

Oh, Harriet Jones. :(

“Everyone but Rose,” and Susan, and Ian, and Barbara, and Vicki, and Steven, and Katarina, and Dodo, and Ben, and Polly…

Your chest cavity being open like that seems like it would be prone to infection.

Take them with you, Jack, the Daleks are coming for Torchwood!

Wilf, don’t call Rose “sweetheart.”

The Dalek shot the Doctor!

The Doctor fake regenerating is a big fuck you to fans.

Journey’s End

Mickey and Jackie saving Sarah Jane is ridiculous, but I approve.

As if Tosh can make a time bubble as a defence for Torchwood.

Mickey kissing his gun is gold.

German Daleks are the best.

“Stop it! She’s my friend!” Do Daleks really care about friendship?

Dead Jack’s wink is great. It’s really convenient that this is the one time he is resurrected without a big gulp of air.

If you just want to atomize these people, just use a transporter.

“We will become the only lifeforms in existence.” Imagine how bored you would be as a Dalek if there’s no one to kill.

I like that Davros recognizes Sarah Jane.

I bet you he saves everyone.

The TARDIS towing Earth back home, is ridiculous.

Donna and Jack should bone.

I forgot that Mickey stays on Earth Prime.

This is horrible. “Genocidal manic, please rehabilitate him, Rose, and feel free to boink.”

She’s very much saying no, screaming no, demanding no. He could just let her die. Dying might be better than living without those memories.

Doctor Who Story 177 – Army of Ghosts/Doomsday

Tardisode

Torchwood are a bunch of assholes.

Army of Ghosts

“Planet Earth, this is where I was born, and this is where I die.” No, you’re going to die on a parallel earth.

You didn’t die, and you can’t narrate your own death! This whole terrible thread is making me look forward to Billie leaving.

I do love Martha.

Jackie kissing the Doctor is amazing.

Yay! The Torchwood theme song.

Freema’s a babe!

The Doctor is more Scooby Doo than Ghostbuster.

She’s wearing two bluetooth headsets. That just seems silly. Also, remember bluetooth headsets?

I think that’s the first “allons y.”

I love Jackie as “Rose.”

I want real Martha. The one who is a doctor, like the Doctor.

That might be the only time I’ve been happy to see Mickey Smith.

Daleks and Cybermen, whee!

I’m enjoying this episode more than I remembered.

Tardisode

Bad guys are coming.

Doomsday

Stop being so dramatic, not-dead Rose!

Things this is not: The story of how you died.

“Cybermen will remove sex?” I did not sign up for that.

The conversation between Daleks and Cybermen is terrible and takes too long. Okay, the Daleks saying “this isn’t war, this is pest control” is brilliant.

“Social interaction will cease.”

Aww, Jackie and Pete love one another.

I enjoy the Dalek shouting “Elevate.”

They should’ve just rigged up a remote starter and done it from the other room.

“Emergency temporal shift” is a good way to keep the Daleks going. They usually don’t bother in Doctor Who, though.

Why was Pete not sucked into the void?

I know he never got to say it, but god damn, they never should have made it that he was about to say it. Stupid Doctor loving his companion. He didn’t even love Susan, and she was his granddaughter.

Donna!

Confidential

Well, if I watch one video a day, I’ll be done by January 2022. Unless I die of COVID first.

I assume that was a hair stylist, but it really looked like Billie was getting a great scalp massage.

This is a lot about Torchwood, the show. I assume at some point they’ll discuss Rose leaving the show, but there’s only 10 minutes left. Make that 5 minutes left. There we go. Okay, we’re back at Canary Wharf, but no talk about Rose, and we’re down to three minutes now.

Oh, this is the wrong episode. This is the Confidential for part one, I don’t have the next one.

Doctor Who Story 172 – Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel

Tardisode

A little bit of back story that will be told in a few seconds in the actual episodes and a few shots of Mickey/Ricky driving a truck.

Rise of the Cybermen

Wow that is the most moustache twirling villain, ever.

Noel Clarke still hasn’t made it into the opening credits.

Just a coincidence that they land right beside a billboard of Pete Tyler.

Hahaha! The bad guy is terrible.

The punk homeless dude looks ridiculous.

I like Ricky’s bubie.

I think the British President is going to die.

Double Ricky!

After two of the best Doctor Who episodes, we get this garbage.

Confidential

Why isn’t this two parter part of the missing episodes of Doctor Who?

Can I just say that the Cybermen suck compared to the Borg.

Tardisode

That was just completely uninteresting.

The Age of Steel

The Doctor is optimistic that the police will do something against a rich person.

Mrs. Moore is great, and another example of a potentially great companion.

“He will be rewarded by force.”

He’s been Cybered, but he still can’t even walk, poor buddy.

This is the most gruesome mass murder in all of Doctor Who. He stopped them from feeling things and now they are all overcome with the pain of being a Cyberman.

Why aren’t they climbing? Also, how’s Mickey going to land that thing.

Goodbye Mickey, it was fun.

Oh, this next one sucks, too.

Remember when each episode ended with thanks to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation? Maybe the CBC should make its own Doctor Who show. There’s The Great Canadian Baking Show why can’t there be Doctor Who (Canada)?

Confidential

A lot of Mickey talk.

Doctor Who Story 171 – The Girl in the Fireplace

Tardisode

Oh, we see the crew before they all die. That was creepy.

Episode

This is the first episode where Mickey is officially a companion. I’ve been tagging him in all episodes he appears in as he eventually became a companion. If you look at all the stories, I tag the actors who play the Doctor, Master and the companions (by character name, not actor name).

Okay, this is definitely one of my all time top Doctor Who stories.

Madame de Pompadour screaming out for the Doctor into the fireplace is such a good teaser and then to jump 3000 years later to a spaceship is great.

“They didn’t nip out for a quick fag.” I don’t think you know what that means, Rose.

“That’s the TARDIS, translates for ya.” “Even French?” Oh, the UK.

I really enjoy Tennant’s interactions with young Reinette.

“I’m the Doctor and I just snogged Madame de Pompadour.”

“What’s a horse doing on a spaceship?” “Mickey, what’s pre-revolutionary France doing on a spaceship?”

Moffat was good at planting little bits of mystery to bring it back to Doctor Who, just don’t let him solve any of them.

What’s with Moffat and bananas?

The Doctor is stuck now.

The Doctor should know about relativity, and he shouldn’t have to be too dumb about how he won’t return immediately. If she needed to pack a bag. He should have waited.

Is that the first time that Mickey successfully read the room, by knowing to leave the Doctor alone.

The ending of this episode is perfect.

Confidential

Nothing to write about, other than Moffat crying because he wasn’t going to get a horse. They gave him a horse.

Doctor Who Story 170 – School Reunion

Tardisode

Oh, it’s about Mickey. I really hoped it would be a precursor with Sarah Jane Smith.

Episode

Anthony Head! Yes! I love Giles.

When you work in a school, do not eat children. It’s a bad idea. You should know better Giles, you usually just arm the children and make them kill vampires. Now you’re a beast and dining on children.

I would like to have the Doctor as my teacher.

Upset Rose is fantastic.

Sarah Jane!

Aww, the look on the Doctor’s face is so nice. He shows how the audience should feel to have perhaps the most iconic companion back on the show. It’s glee, and I feel it with him.

They need to hug. I want them to hug.

David Tennant is so good to show glee.

I agree with Sarah, the Doctor could have come back. Dropping her in Aberdeen was such an asshole thing to do.

Mickey, you’re not “the tin dog.” You’re nowhere near as awesome as K9.

Rose, the Doctor will leave you behind. He left behind his own granddaughter.

I think the companions could be a great group of friends. They all have lived through something so few have done.

K9 is so much better than Mickey.

Sarah is so great.

Apparently breaking a monitor breaks an entire network of devices.

While the Troughton is still my favourite Doctor, this might be the best Doctor Who to date. The story isn’t too sprawling. It’s fun and silly and enjoyable. Has lines like “forget the shooty dog thing.” It’s a great story. I know that there are better episodes coming up, particularly in the Matt Smith days, but bravo.

See, at least Mickey doesn’t just break a screen, he follows the wires. But why are there sparks when he unplugs everything. Also, why is everything plugged into one socket? That seems like a bad idea.

The “affirmative” when the Doctor tells K9 he’s a good boy is perfection.

Giles gnarles “You bad dog!” K9 replies “affirmative.”

Oh good, he’s hugging Sarah after the loss of K9.

I wish Sarah came with them. I’d rather have her than Rose.

“Some things are worth getting your heart broken for.” A great line.

I wish her spinoff was better, but the biggest problem is that it was meant for little kids.

Oh, next episode is even better than this one!

Confidential

The person on set doing K9’s voice is silly. John Leeson did his recording in studio.

Yes, they’re playing the opening credits to K9 and Company. K9!

Hell, if they gave us K9 instead of Mickey Smith, I would have been okay with that.

Susan’s farewell was just shown, and it’s so bad. He’s such an asshole.

Now they’re showing him saying goodbye to Jamie and Zoe. :`(

Doctor Who Story 168 – New Earth

Tardisode

Really? That’s what they’re calling the mini-episode? Bad name.

So this is an ad for a hospital. It adds nothing to the story. I think most will be like that.

Episode

I haven’t mentioned this before, but I’m so happy they got rid of face during the opening credits.

David Tennant seems so happy to be the Doctor.

Gross, don’t refer to your adventures as dates.

Cassandra is horrible. I’m surprised they brought her back.

“The lonely god…” I dislike this description of the Doctor.

Also, I think the writers are overestimating Rose’s attractiveness.

The Doctor is suspicious.

Cassandra switching between the Doctor and Rose is amazing.

He can cure everyone of everything, and then the cure passes by touch, so why were these people locked up in the first place?

How come past and future Cassandra can touch one another?

Confidential

I can’t believe that David Tennant was even considering saying no.

Doctor Who Story 167 – The Christmas Invasion

The Christmas Invasion

Aww, Jackie looks so sad.

Okay, speaking of TARDIS sounds being so loud, Mickey can hear it while in a car shop with music blaring.

David Tennant is great, and ending the teaser with “Doctor who?” is wonderful!

I’m excited for Tennant’s run as the Doctor.

“Tina has a lodger, a medical student.” It’s MARTHA!1

Mickey really needs to leave Rose. Why does he care about her. She has no interest in him.

Also, Mickey, her bestie is ill, and she’s worried about him. He’s an asshole to assume that she should ignore that.

Yay! David Tennent is awake! Only took 11 minutes. Much better than our buddy Paul McGann.

Hahaha! The video of the shark coming past the camera on the website that Mickey is on is so bad!

I’m with Harriet Jones. It’s only polite to introduce yourself, even if you’re Prime Minister.

The UNIT dude saying that “of course” they’re not Martians, Martians looks completely different is great.

First mention of Torchwood.

“The Doctor wouldn’t do this, the old Doctor, he’d wake up?” Really if someone is sick, you think he can just magically wake up?

“They control the blood” is absolutely ridiculous. Love it.

You’re in the middle of a national address, and on camera you ask about the royal family?

With Jones asking for the Doctor’s help on national television, you’d think his companions (past, present and future) would assemble.

Rose is once again proving she’s a dummy.

Okay, 40 minutes and the Doctor is back. Hooray for the David Tennant.

The Doctor quoting the Lion King is gold.

Well, that lost hand is going to play a major role in the next few seasons.

“This new hand, it’s a fightin’ hand!” Might be the line that makes every Doctor Who fan love David Tennant. God, Mickey is annoying.

Eccleston’s Doctor would never have hugged Jackie.

I think Jones is right. Humanity cannot rely on a single person, even if it’s the Doctor.

New outfit time!

Mickey’s so sad. She just said she’s never going to stay, so you should move on with your life.

Attack of the Graske

Never seen this before. I imagine it’s going to be terrible. Most interactive things are.

I half expected the opening credits to be say “David Tennant” and “You.”

Rose is seeing Abba at Wembley.

Obviously the grandma is the alien. Grandmas are always the alien.

Grandpa has quite the eyebrows.

Oh! The mom’s eyes just glowed, I think she’s the alien.

It’s Mum, press 1!!!

Oh, it’s a Graske, they’ve been in proper Doctor Who at some point.

Didn’t realize it was a memory game.

  1. It’s not Martha. []

Doctor Who Story 166 – Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways

Bad Wolf

We’re only on the first season and we’ve already gone back to the Slitheen, Cardiff, and now Satellite 5.

The sound mix is terrible. I can’t hear the dialogue over the music. Big Brother seems terrible. Weakest Link is much better.

Captain Jack’s reality show is much better.

The boss from Peep Show is in this.

Tee hee, it was in his butt.

The Human race sitting on their butts not leaving home because it’s not safe sound familiar.

The Face of Boe gets a nod again.

I feel like it’s been a while in Doctor Who since we’ve seen transmats.

EXTERMINATE!

Confidential

There’s a dude in the Anne Droid costume!

Oh that’s happy! I didn’t know that Nicola Bryant and Peter Davison recorded their Big Finish stuff together. That’s really nice.

The Parting of the Ways

Aww, the Doctor saved Rose. Also, their relationship is creepy.

A nice bit of Time War info.

“DO NOT BLASPHEME!”

Aww, the Doctor is returning Rose to Earth and saying goodbye.

Okay, so the TARDIS makes a sound when it lands. Mickey comes running. You’d think that if the TARDIS was that loud that he can hear it from his house, then wouldn’t the TARDIS get swarmed by companions? Where’s Ace?

The whole “Bad Wolf” thing is terrible.

The death by Dalek is a terrible special effect, but somehow it’s weirdly creepy still.

The Anne Droid killing Daleks is wonderful!

The romance subplot between Rose and the Doctor is really inappropriate.

Oh, Rose killed all Daleks in existence. I guess we will never see them again.

The deus ex machina ending is so cheesy, and the Doctor kissing Rose to pull out the energy of the time vortex is VERY cheesy. BUT! It was a fun run with Eccleston. I really liked him in the role of the Doctor. But then David Tennant came and they’re off to Barcelona.

The Children In Need Special

So this bridges the gap between them heading to Barcelona and them crashing on Earth for the Christmas Invasion.

It’s not great, it is not needed, but it’s nice they did a little charity special.

Confidential

Russell T. Davies just said the Eccleston is excited that he was the one who pressed the button that wiped out the Doctor, but if that was the case, he should have come back for the reunion. Instead we had John Hurt.

Doctor Who Story 165 – Boom Town

Episode

Who at Doctor Who central, thought the Slitheen were so go they needed a follow up?

Why is the farting a thing?

The chase scene with the teleport is comic gold.

Jack is so excited about everything and it’s really nice.

Rose has bad taste in men.

Russell T. Davies’ era is so kinky.

This is surprisingly a fun episode.

Good on Mickey for going out with Tricia. Bad on Rose for saying mean things about her because she’s “a bit thick.”

Mickey, you’re right. It’s always going to be the Doctor. There’s no reason to scream at Rose, just realize that it’s over and move on. Rose should be open about it and just break up with him, rather than dragging him to Cardiff and dragging out this relationship.

Well, there’s some setup for the finale.

Rose saying Mickey deserves better is both true and sad, he does deserve better, but he’s also shit.

Confidential

It seems the Doctor Who writers think the Doctor is the one doing the killing.

What I’ve discovered is Confidential did a good job at introducing new viewers to classic Doctor Who.
