Jolly Snowflake Day, Everyone!

Dear Family and Friends, Is it possible a year has passed since my last impersonal over-informative photocopied holiday update? I can hardly believe it’s only been a year since the United Nations abolished religious holidays in favour of the non-offensive, all-inclusive, Snowflake Day. In addition to my crippling bunions from last year, I have also been diagnosed with corns. But in this happy season, we all have to be thankful. Thankful that the plantar warts in my other foot have finally been removed, save one, I call him Gary; and he’s part of the family now, he’d better buy me a good present! And after fifty-two hours, I finally passed… Read More »Jolly Snowflake Day, Everyone!

Top 50 of the Aughts further explained

A list is a list, and it doesn’t really cover what I hope to let people know. If you don’t know me, you won’t know why I chose these records. I thought I’d further explain the top 10. 10) God Help The Girl – God Help The Girl (2009) God Help The Girl is the soundtrack to Stuart Murdoch’s unwritten film. The Belle & Sebastian frontman used the opportunity of a hiatus to record a new record using female vocalists who he wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to work within the stricter environment of a Belle & Sebastian album. The songs are damn good, and Stuart arranges for a wide… Read More »Top 50 of the Aughts further explained

Top Five TV Shows of the Aughts

5) How I Met Your Mother First off, Willow’s in it! She’s dreamy. Secondly, Doogie’s hilarious. Finally, it’s damn funny. 4) The Mighty Boosh This BBC3 comedy focuses on Howard Moon (an incompetent, small-eyed jazz fan), Vince Noir (a fashion conscious simpleton), Naboo (a shaman), Bollo (a gorilla) and Bob Fossill (the manager of the zoo the main characters work in during the first series). Each series has a different theme, during the first, the cast work in a zoo, the second, they’re roommates, the third, they work in Naboo’s shop. There’s not much sense of continuity to the series, but it’s fuckin’ funny. 3) 30 Rock I love this… Read More »Top Five TV Shows of the Aughts

fstemp

Thought I’d post this in case anyone else has a similar problem. Our Head of School’s MacBook Pro was having problems. It was eating up disk space for no apparent reason. It seemed to be happening during the synchronization of the mobile home directory. Running lots of apps including OmniDiskSweeper were reporting that while the disk had 216GB used, it was only cataloguing 50GB. With the suggestion of a fabulous engineer at Apple, I ran the program as the superuser sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper and it found hundreds of gigabytes in the user’s desktop directory all called silly names like… .fstemp.+PHD-L-hDjzWLUASp4 … 3Z1.noindex I’m deleting those.

Learn To Party

Been cleaning up old files on my computer and found a rip of Thrush Hermit’s Learn To Party, which I had digitized from VHS years ago.

Being There

What’s a good level between easy of use and security? I’m not sure. I’ve installed reCAPTCHA on instance of WordPress, I don’t think it’ll stay, I just wanted to try it out and see if it works. It does. I installed it on Being There’s instance of WordPress and there it’ll live, but is it too annoying for the average user, thus stopping them from commenting?

My Fair Clavin Part II

I think I should revisit this post. I think the issue is the shoulder pads.

Schomberg Fair

Went to see the Schomberg Fair last night at The Garrison, here in Toronto. Fab show.
