Recollection Volume 2 – Depend On This

Recollection is a project to review my record collection. I will listen to an album I own and review it. The album will be chosen randomly by computron. Today computron chooses…  Album: Depend On This Artist: Ruth Minnikin and Her Bandwagon Released: 2009 Format(s) I own it on: Vinyl No, seriously, this is random. Yes, Ruth Minnikin sang on the last album, and now here we are talking about one of hers, but honestly, it’s random. Depend On This is two variations of one EP. Side one (and yes, I own on this on vinyl) has six songs in a straight up folk-pop arrangement with elements of ragtime and jazz, while side two… Read More »Recollection Volume 2 – Depend On This

Campaign Rally

I did something today I’ve never done before. I went to a campaign rally. Here’s photographic evidence. Ignore that it’s a bad shot, as it was taken on my iPhone. Ignore Kristin’s head in half the shot. Ignore the fact that Councillor Mike Layton is giving me a death glare. Not only did I go to a campaign rally for the first time, I’ve also donated to a political campaign and have volunteered to help out Ms. Chow’s campaign. It’s no secret that I think Rob Ford was the worst possible choice for mayor. Amongst the three million possible Torontonians, he’s definitely near the bottom, but we’ve had to put… Read More »Campaign Rally

Doctor Who Serial 048 – The Seeds of Death

Synopsis: The Ice Warriors take over a moon base. Oh god, not the Icccccccccccce Warriorsssssssssss. At T-Mat control on Earth, things are hectic and behind schedule, a man comes in to transport to the Moon. The T-Mat is essentially just “beam-me-up” technology. The only difference is that Doctor Who can’t afford visual effects. Toronto is mentioned in the T-Mat Control Centre chatter. And according to TARDIS Data Core, it is the only canonical mention of Toronto in Doctor Who. We need to do something about this… Doctor Who was created by a Torontonian, after all! T-Mat access to the Moon has been disabled. T-Mat control must look to ancient rocket technology to get… Read More »Doctor Who Serial 048 – The Seeds of Death

The album was chosen randomly, but Plaskett was the first artist I ever interviewed1 Pictured to the left is the album’s vinyl release. Synopsis: A species choose their two finest students and gives them to the Krotons. The Doctor and company discover in the wastelands that these chosen people are being sacrificed. No one has seen the Krotons for millennia. Oh. My. God. This story opens with one of the most classic Doctor Who moments, ever. A portal opens and a man’s arm reaches into it, but the portal doesn’t open properly or on time. It’s the definition of wobbly sets. The TARDIS appears in a quarry. This episode is living up to cliché. My word, what is Zoe wearing? So the Krotons are killing their people, so their solution is to destroy the… Read More »Doctor Who Serial 047 – The Krotons

Recollection

Next week I’m starting a little project. I’m going to review every album I own. That’s a lot of records. I’ve thrown them all into a database and have a script which randomly chooses a record number, I then review it. This is an excuse to break out from my constant playlists. It’s also a goal to get myself writing more, and hopefully better. It’ll also give me a chance to perhaps do some small interviews. We’ll see where this goes.

Doctor Who Serial 045 – The Mind Robber

Another day, another Doctor Who serial. Synopsis: In a quick getaway from the erupting volcano from the previous serial, the TARDIS finds itself outside normal space-time. The Doctor and crew are being pitted against fictitious characters, as the author of their doom tries to ensnare The Doctor to award himself freedom. The episode starts off with the TARDIS flying apart as Jamie and Zoe cling to the console for dear life. The episode also begins with Zoe’s bum. They face Medusa, a unicorn, a minotaur, and even Karkus, a comic book character from the distant future, the year 2000. Zoe kicks his ass. One of the stranger aspects of this… Read More »Doctor Who Serial 045 – The Mind Robber
